A Guwahati-based teacher who went missing under mysterious circumstances has been traced to Shillong, police confirmed on April 25, bringing partial relief to her family and residents following the case closely.
The woman, identified as Bhavna Sarma, a former teacher at Miles Bronson School in Borjhar and a resident of Tetelia, had gone missing on April 24 after sending a distress message to her family.
Bhavna Sarma, a Guwahati-based teacher who went missing after sending a distress message, has been traced to a location in Shillong. Police have dispatched a team to verify her condition as the investigation continues.
Traced to Shillong Location
According to DCP (West) Guwahati, Balen Deuri, Sarma was located in a room near Polo Ground in Shillong early on Saturday morning.
“We have traced Bhavna’s location to a room in the Polo Ground of Shillong. A team of police officials have already left for Shillong. Her family has also gone there,” the officer said.
Authorities added that the circumstances surrounding her disappearance remain unclear and are being examined from multiple angles.
Distress Message Triggered Search
The case had initially caused concern in Guwahati after Sarma reportedly sent a message to her family stating she was “in danger” while travelling in a cab.
According to her cousin, Pradipta Bharadwaj, she had left for work around 10:50 AM, and within less than half an hour, the family received a distress message at around 11:19 AM.
“She said she was in danger and that her money had been taken away. We immediately informed the police,” he said.
Phone Switched Off After Message
Following the message, Sarma’s phone was switched off, leaving her family unable to contact her or determine her location.
This prompted them to approach the Jalukbari Police Station in Guwahati, where a missing person complaint was lodged.
Police and Family Reach Shillong
After tracing her location, a team from Guwahati Police has travelled to Shillong to verify her condition and gather further details.
Family members have also reached the location, as authorities continue to assess the situation.
Investigation Continues
Officials have stated that all possible angles are being investigated, including the events leading up to her disappearance and her movement after leaving Guwahati.
Further clarity is expected once police complete their verification and interaction at the Shillong location.
What Happens Next
Police are expected to provide an official update after reaching the site and confirming Sarma’s condition.
For residents in Guwahati, the case remains under close watch as authorities work to establish the full sequence of events.
